My first quilt project/ Mon premier travail

I made this bag between January and May 2005 (merci Michèle, ma "prof"!). With the exception of the zipper in the separate pouch, it is entirely made and quilted by hand. Plenty of pockets make this bag great for taking my projects with me. There's a place for everything.
J'ai commencé ce sac en janvier 2005 pour le finir en mai de la même année (merci, Michèle, ma "prof"!). A l'exception de la fermeture éclair de la trousse, il a été entièrement fait et quilté à la main. Un grand nombre de poches, avec une place pour tout, font qu'il est très pratique pour emmener mon travail avec moi.


    

Virginia Stars/Etoiles de Virginie    

This is the second project I began, fifteen Virginia Star blocks that I began making in September 2005 for a king-size quilt for our bed. I was really excited when I began assembling the blocks into the quilt top, which was finished 6 February 2007. I finished the hand-quilting on 17 July 2008, and on 27 July the quilt was finally finished and put on the bed. Below are pictures.
Voici mon deuxième projet, quinze étoiles de Virginie commencées en septembre 2005, l'objectif étant de faire un quilt pour en lit de 160 cm. J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir quand j'ai pu commencer à assembler les blocs entre eux, et j'ai fini cette étape le 6 février 2007. Le 17 juillet 2008, j'ai fini de le quilter à la main, et puis le 27 juillet mon premier quilt a enfin été fini et installé sur le lit. Ci-dessous des photos.

Bag/Trousse

The quilt group I was in while living in Beijing made little bags like this together one day - it's a real cutie, too! Suzanne Sciboz, a Swiss member of our French-speakers association, showed us the technique. 17 May 2006
Le groupe de patchwork auquel j'appartenais lors de mon séjour à Pékin a fait de petites trousses comme celle-ci un jour, et je l'ai trouvée "craquante"! Suzanne Sciboz, membre suisse de Pékin Accueil, nous a montrées la technique le 17 mai 2006.



    

Owls/Hiboux

In October 2008, I attended the Houston Quilt Festival for the first time (what an experience!). I was meeting my twin sister Sandy there, so before going, I made these twin owls, one for her and one for me. I used my little Featherweight to make them.
En octobre 2008 je suis allée au Salon international de patchwork à Houston pour la première fois, et je dois dire que cela a été une vraie expérience! Je rencontrais ma soeur jumelle pour l'occasion, alors avec ma nouvelle Featherweight j'ai fabriqué ces hiboux, l'un pour elle et l'autre pour moi-même.

At the end of October 2008, I went to Houston for the first time for the International Quilt Festival. What an experience! While I was there, I took a class in precision machine piecing from Philippa Naylor, and here's the 51 cm (20-inch) block I made for that. I've simply hemmed it and plan to use it as a table-topper at Christmas.
Fin octobre 2008 je suis allée à Houston pour la première fois pour le Salon International de Patchwork. Quelle expérience! Pendant le salon, j'ai suivi un stage pour apprendre à piécer à la machine; l'animatrice était Philippa Naylor, une Anglaise très connue, et ci-dessous vous pouvez voir le bloc (51 cm) que j'ai fabriqué à cette occasion. Je l'ai simplement ourlé et il servira de napperon à Noël.




    

I fell in love with all the boutis I've seen in France, and registered for a class in the technique in March 2008. It took me almost exactly 8 months (but not non-stop!) to finish the project I began at the class, but here it finally is!
Je suis tombée sous le charme du boutis que j'ai vu ici en France, alors je me suis inscrite à un stage en mars 2008 pour apprendre la technique. Huit mois plus tard, presque jour pour jour mais avec des pauses, j'ai fini le travail commencé en stage!
